Commercial Dog Food - What You Must Know
Commercial dog food - such confusion. I don’t know about you but I have spent many an hour just staring at the vast array of dog food available and at the end having absolutely no idea what i have just bought.
The issue is there are just loads of brands to chose from. Where do you start when faced with complete information overload. It would help if we could actually make sense of the labelling and have some idea of what we were feeding our dog. Do we really know what we are feeding our dog?
The bottom line is you don’t know what your dog is eating. The pet-food industry spend enormous sums of money to ensure that we believe all their claims. The food may be labelled as “meeting all your dogs needs” but unfortunately that is not so.
Here are a few points to remember the next time you need to buy your dog food.
Dog food contains numerous additives, colourings and preservatives.
Your dogs food will often be contaminated with a wide variety of toxic substances. Some of these will be destroyed by processing, however, some will not. Drugs used to “put down” sick animals are known to still be present in dog food after the manufacturing process
A large number of dog food companies state their products contain “human grade ingredients”. This is not true.
A number of diseases in dogs have been linked to commercial pet foods and pet food ingredients.
We all want what is best for our dog so please remember the petfood industry is extremely profitable ($25 billion per annum worldwide). They use state of the art advertising which will not enable you to make an informed decision regarding your dogs diet. You must step back from the hype and learn what is really in your dogs bowl.
For years I had no idea that the food I was feeding my dog was literally a “time bomb” waiting to go off. It was only after my gorgeous 5 year old newfoundland died that I started to research the commercial dog food industry.
